The story
Charlwood is a thriving Saxon settlement in Wessex, home to the finest blacksmiths in the land and known as the Forge of Britannia. Its wealth makes it a target. Viking longboats advance up the River Mole, the Saxon men march out to meet them, and they are massacred on the marshes.
The women of Charlwood, hardened by years at the forges, refuse to flee. While the raiders camp and drink, the women cover themselves in soot and ash, take up master-forged weapons and slip into the Viking camp by night. By dawn the land is stained red, and it still carries the names from that night: Slaughter Wick, Slaughter Bridge, Red Earth.
The characters
Eadwyn, widow of the town's master blacksmith, becomes the women's reluctant commander. Aelfwynn, a young mother, fights with the raw fury of survival. Hilda, an elder who knows poisons and battlefield tactics, brings cunning. Facing them is Bjorn the Reaper, a Viking warlord who never imagines that women could be his downfall.
Where it stands
The 180-page screenplay is in final polish. The film is backed by GENESIS Investment, Luxembourg, in partnership with MILC Virtual Studios, with distribution planned via WEBFLIX. The look is gritty and immersive, in the spirit of The Revenant and The Northman, and it will be produced through Dreamcatcher Films' AI pipeline.
